Josephs alerts motorists to JFK Boulevard bridge closure for westbound traffic for three days over two-week period

HARRISBURG, Nov. 20 – State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., cautions motorists about three days of closure for the westbound lanes crossing the JFK Boulevard Bridge in the next two weeks.

The two westbound lanes will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, Monday, Dec. 3 and Friday, Dec. 7 so that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation can pour the new concrete bridge deck.

During each closure, Josephs said that westbound traffic will be detoured over 20th Street, Market Street and the Schuylkill Parkway.

In the case of inclement weather, the detour will be operational on Friday, Nov. 30 and/or Tuesday, Dec. 4.

This work is part of PennDOT's $17.9 million project to rehabilitate the three-span, 488-foot long bridge and make structural repairs to the deck. Construction began in early April and is scheduled to finish in February 2009.

The eastbound traffic lanes on the bridge have been closed since April, and will remain so until the project is completed.
