HARRISBURG, March 28 -- State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., recently announced that she has been named to the House Rules Committee for the 2007-08 legislative term.
The Rules Committee makes recommendations to improve and expedite the business and procedure of the House and its committees. The committee also can propose any amendments to the rules deemed necessary.
"It is an honor to be appointed to the Rules Committee," Josephs said. "We have changed the way we do business by significantly amending the rules, including not allowing the Rules Committee to amend any bills in a way that changes their substance. It's a change that I supported. Now, it's more important than ever that the rules of the House not be misused and, as a member of the committee, I will work to make sure that doesn't happen."
The committee is bipartisan consisting of the speaker, both leaders and whips, both Appropriations chairmen, 12 members of the majority party, and 10 members of the minority party.
Josephs also serves as chairwoman of the House State Government Committee, and as a member of the House Majority Policy and the Agriculture & Rural Affairs committees.
