Josephs announces internship partnership opportunity

HARRISBURG, June 29 -- State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., announced an internship partnership opportunity between emerging technology businesses and Pennsylvania's students.

The Technology Work Experience Internship Program gives Pennsylvania students an opportunity to get real-world experience while companies get reimbursed for 50 percent of the interns' wages.

"This program is a win-win situation," Josephs said. "Students get invaluable experience and companies that would not ordinarily be able to offer such opportunities can have a part in shaping our future workforce."

Josephs said to be eligible, an employer must:

Be a scientific research and product development company located in Pennsylvania
Employ less than 500 full-time employees or be incorporated for less than eight years
Complete an employer interest form online at www.pheaa.org to become eligible
Enter into an agreement with the student's post-secondary school

Students must:

Be Pennsylvania residents
Have their school fully verify their eligibility
Be enrolled in a New Economy Technology Scholarship-approved degree program
Complete a student placement form online at www.pheaa.org

The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency administers the program and the wages are reimbursed through funds provided to approved post-secondary institutions.
